The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies will present a special lecture, "Russian Cyber Capabilities: Policy and Practice," with Amb. David J. Smith, Senior Fellow, and Ms. Khatuna Mshvidobadze, Associate Academic Fellow, on Tuesday, November 8, from 12-2 pm, at the Institute. In this thought-provoking presentation, Amb. Smith and Ms. Mshvidobadze will address the intersection of Russian government, business and crime, and the Russian approach to information warfare. They will explore the role of Vladimir Putin, who is set to reascend to the presidency in 2012, as well as the existing Russian state organization. They will address cyber attacks on Estonia in 2007 and Georgia in 2008, from their perspective as resident experts at the Georgian Security Analysis Center in Tbilisi, where Amb. Smith is Director. The presentations will also examine the DDOS attacks on the LiveJournal and Novaya Gazeta sites, as well as the future outlook and policy options for defense against cyber attacks. Registration is required. |
